　This course uses a content based approach to develop basic skills of English． Both fluency in self expression and accuracy in English usage will be emphasized． The students will focus on issues of intercultural communication，specifically between Japanese and Americans，and will be asked to read，listen to，discuss and write short role−plays about situations where differences in cultural backgrounds and expectations might create problems of communication and understanding．The students will suggest ways to clarify and improve communication and will increase their own understanding of the cultural assumptions that people bring to the scene of international communication．
